Abstract

El interés oficial por disminuir paulatina pero sustancialmente la inflación en Colombia se ha hecho evidente a partir de 1991, experiencia que se había repetido en muchos países de la mano con el surgimiento de hipótesis y hallazgos de los economistas referidos a los costos de la inflación o de las políticas que la promueven. Han sido muchas las razones esgrimidas por los economistas para considerar que la inflación tiene un significativo costo social en términos de bienestar o crecimiento económico perdidos. Este documento no pretende ofrecer un nuevo aporte a la serie de estas razones, el objetivo es más modesto; consiste en evaluar, de nuevo, el costo social de la menos dañina de todas las inflaciones: aquella perfectamente prevista por una sociedad de agentes racionales.
