Abstract

The study included epidemiological issues that are important in the conduct of public policies in the field of health. In the decade of the years, Costa Rica had controlled the infections by this vector. The highest prevalence ratios in Latin America. The phenomenon of different angles approached; economic approximations used with focus on the relationship in the variables, a geo-referenced model to determine regional differences. The relationships complemented by a geographical analysis by using a map to show the changes in the incidence of dengue over time for each canton. The results support the criteria of the results of the explanatory practices and the reasonable results. One cannot resort to a theoretical framework because in epidemiological or clinical issues, the economic paradigm has not been developed successfully (or even without it). There is a rich publication of the answers offered to other approaches and that offer complementary and interesting visions. Panel estimates, causality studies in Granger, exploration of the geographic spectrum and historical cantonal maps are part of those views. When considering the effects of Hurricane Otto, Guácimo is the only region that presented an increase in the incidence rate from 2016 to 2017. Those declared with red alert. An incidence of classic dengue (per 100 000) is higher than the neighbors, (Panama 3 times and Nicaragua twice). For hemorrhagic dengue, Costa Rica shows double the incidence of Panama, but in the fourth part of Nicaragua and it is lower than in the region. The paradox, then, appears with lethality due to dengue. It is the smallest in the Latin American region, along with Uruguay, one third of Panama and 1/15 of that of Nicaragua. The quality (infrastructure and human) of the health system that explains the results.
