México en la fábrica de América del Norte y el nearshoring

Abstract

En este estudio se analizan los procesos de inversión en México en el contexto del nearshoring producido por la relocalización de las inversiones en las cadenas globales de producción, como parte del cambio en la estructura regional de las cadenas globales de producción identificada por las fábricas globales de Europa, Asia y América del Norte, en la que está incluido México. El cambio detonado por las crisis en cuso desde 2008 abrió un debate sobre el futuro de la globalización y marca el contexto de la relocalización de las inversiones globales hacia los países fábrica. Destaca la singularidad del fenómeno en México debido al acoplamiento estratégico del país con los Estados Unidos, establecido al inicio de la producción internacional en la década de 1960. Actualmente la economía mexicana ha quedado integrada en el sistema productivo caracterizado como la fábrica de América del Norte, hegemonizada por los Estados Unidos, lo que crea oportunidades y desafíos para México, tanto por los cambios en esta como en las otras fábricas de la economía global.
