Determinantes de la Probabilidad de Tener Servicio Doméstico en Colombia

Abstract

Entre 1984 y 2002 se presentó una caída permanente en la proporción de hogares colombianos que utilizan personal asalariado para trabajo doméstico ("servicio doméstico"). Para estudiar este hecho utilizamos un modelo teórico de la decisión del hogar de tener o no tener servicio doméstico, y realizamos una estimación econométrica de tal probabilidad. Dicha probabilidad se ve afectada no sólo por las decisiones de demanda de los hogares sino también por las de oferta de las personas dedicadas a este oficio. Las variables explicativas del modelo son el nivel eduactivo del jefe del hogar en relación con el de sevicio doméstico, el número de desemplados en el hogar, la riqueza del mismo y el número de personas que requieren cuidado (personas incapacitadas e inválidas, personas en la primera infancia y mayores de 80 años). Todas las variables son significativas a lo largo del período de estudio 1984-2002 y tienen el signo esperado. En materia de pronóstico el modelo se desempeña bien. La fuente de la información es el conjunto de todas las etapas de la Encuesta Nacional de Hogares y de la Encuesta Continua de Hogares para las sietemayores ciudades.
