Abstract

After entering office in 1989, Menem’s administration made several unsuccessful attempts to stabilize an economy under hyperinflation (the so-called Bunge and Born Plan and others). The renewed inflationary episodes in 1990 and the resignation of two ministers of economy paved the way for the appointment of Cavallo (and his team) in the Ministry of Economy in early 1991.
