Abstract

Within the activities of the strategic project KNOW US were performed analyses and described business models of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the five sectors of the economy across the border of Slovenia and Italy. The sectors involved are: tourism, transport and storage, furniture manufacturing, construction, and agriculture. The main purpose of the analyses was to examine the situation of the sectors across the border of Slovenia and Italy, covering the following regions: Obalno-Kraska region, Goriska Region, Notranjsko-Kraska region, Central region, Veneto, Emiglia Romagna and Friuli Venezia Giulia. The analyses have considered trends of the main economic indicators and also covered an overview of the main international and domestic trends in the studied sectors. This has enabled insight into the dynamics of technological, social, political and socio-economic environment and the competition. Special emphasis have been given to the impact of sustainability in the studied sectors , mainly due to the increasing efforts by the European Union to ensure sustainable development.
