Abstract

Data envelopment analysis is a method used in both operations research and economics to measure the efficiency of decision-making units. Studies contributing to the improvement of such methods are therefore important to many fields. This collection offers readers a broad selection of such studies, with several case studies. One case study considers using data envelopment analysis in education, with reference to self-organizing maps, while another discusses the ex-post clustering of Brazilian beef cattle farms using SOMS and DEA models. Another chapter considers the negative efficiencies of DEA models. The hierarchical Copeland method is used in another chapter to rank results in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Finally, data envelopment analysis is applied to the subject of benchmarking distance-learning centres.
