Abstract

Esta obra, cuyo origen es el ciclo de conferencias que el autor impartió en la Fundación BBVA, explora la relación que existe entre la ciencia y los científicos y el poder político. Para ello, toma como protagonistas a cuatro gobernantes que marcaron períodos decisivos no sólo en la historia de las naciones que dirigieron, sino también en la historia mundial: Napoleón Bonaparte, Adolf Hitler, Iosiv Stalin y Dwight David Eisenhower. A partir de una extensa documentación histórica, se estudian las relaciones que mantuvieron con la ciencia y los científicos. Ciencia, política y poder transita por capítulos históricos como la Francia posrevolucionaria, las dos guerras mundiales y la Guerra Fría, en los que aparecen científicos tan notables como Bohr, Monge, Berthollet, Laplace, Fourier, Volta, Haber, Lenard, Stark, Einstein, Heisenberg, von Braun, Hahn, Meitner, Pavlov, Kapitza, Landau, Sajarov, Kurchatov, Szilard, Oppenheimer, Rabi, Wigner y Teller, entre otros. De indudable interés para cualquier lector sensibilizado, resulta una obra igualmente atractiva para historiadores y expertos en la historia de la ciencia y la tecnología.
