Encrucijadas epistémicas de la medicina: el problema del cáncer

Abstract

Son muchos y diversos los desafíos de orden epistémico que, desde los saberes y las prácticas médicas, se abren a la reflexión de las ciencias sociales y humanas. Pero quizá el estudio del cáncer constituya uno de los más importantes y complejos, porque sus implicaciones exceden el nivel teórico y se manifiestan en las grandes dificultades que supone su diagnóstico y tratamiento oportuno. Por ejemplo, frente a esta enfermedad las ciencias sociales han abordado como tema de investigación su impacto en el terreno emocional y familiar, pero seguramente existe mucho más por explorar en lo que respecta a las condiciones y circunstancias psicosociales en cuyo marco se configura esta singular forma de emergencia de la vida que conserva, constitutiva y simbólicamente, el sello mismo de la muerte.
