Osterweiterung der EU: Mehr Realismus ist notwendig

Abstract

Die Erwartungen der mittel- und osteuropäischen Länder an die eigene Beitrittsfähigkeit sind zu hoch. Die Anpassungslasten sind für sie so groß, daß sie es auch bis zum Jahr 2002 kaum geschafft haben werden, dem Wettbewerbsdruck auf dem gemeinsamen Markt standzuhalten. Somit ist es aus ökonomischer Sicht wenig sinnvoll, den Beginn der Beitrittsverhandlungen mit konkreten Terminvorstellungen zu belasten.
