Retornos en salud de la población adulta mayor

Abstract

El grupo de adultos mayores es uno de los sectores de la población más vulnerable, que requiere atención especial por estar débilmente protegido ante situaciones de riesgo y shock externos. Por otro lado, el fenómeno de transición va determinando un aumento relativo de la proporción de personas mayores de 60 años. Además, el porcentaje de adultos mayores que trabaja asciende a 54% y el 70% de ellos es pobre y pobre extremo. El presente estudio estima el impacto del estado de la salud sobre la productividad, y encuentra que las mujeres rurales poseen la mayor tasa de retorno de la salud (13,8%). El estado de salud de las personas adultas mayores es un factor esencial en la determinación de su productividad. La estimación de los retornos sociales de la inversión en salud (por ubicación geográfica y .género) en este grupo de la población, otorga información valiosa para el diseño de estrategias de inversión social a favor de grupos vulnerables.
