Abstract

Romania’s transformation in the last 20 years raised a lot of questions about the causes and consequences of the good and bad things that happened in our economy. European integration and globalization were the two key words of our evolution. Romania became more opened and integrated in the world economy but we don’t know the best way to measure the importance of globalization in our life. This paper examines different measures of globalization, presenting the sets of indicators and indexes used to evaluate this complex process. The purpose is to find some answers to a difficult question: what is the best way to measure economic globalization of a country? The paper starts with an overview of the challenges related to the evaluation of globalization, continues with a synthetic presentation of the most used indicators and presents the scores and rankings of Romania in the recent years.
