Abstract

Last year saw the pace of global economic growth edge down from the 3.5 per cent rate of 2022. At an estimated 3.2 per cent in 2023, global GDP growth was one of the slowest annual rates (excepting the Covid-hit year of 2020) since the global financial crisis. The slowdown resulted from a combination of factors – the effects of high inflation and rising interest rates reducing real income growth and increased global political concerns, particularly arising from events in Gaza and Ukraine.
