Abstract

The issues of national economy modernization in countries with economies in transition are discussed. These states are proved to be mostly focusing on the catchup model of modernization of society and economy on the whole to reach the level of highly developed countries. However, little attention is paid to the fact that there is a possible alternative to this choice: modernization of an outstripping type. This type of modernization appears to be more effective and accumulative, capable of updating the national economy of countries at a fast pace. The key risks, issues and shortcomings the catch-up model of the economy modernization includes in, as well as conditions for transition to the outstripping model are highlighted
