The existing EU framework: a cornucopia

Author

Listed:
  • Jean Paul Simon

Abstract

The European Commission has been dealing with the regulation of the audiovisual sector, in particular of its content, over the last three decades. Various European directives have succeeded one another in trying to provide a framework adapted to the development of a European audiovisual sector that meets the challenges linked to both economic and political developments associated with European integration, and an unprecedented technological revolution particularly in the ways content are provided to the viewers or users. The paper provides a sketchy vademecum of the main policies.
