Abstract

The alarming environmental reality of the planet demands the adoption of practices related to the circular economy principles. In the business world, more studies are needed to investigate the application of circular economy principles to stimulate companies to invest in innovative practices that can open new opportunities to enhance their competitive advantage. This study shows that implementing the circular economy principles can enhance the value proposition of the company to its customers and, therefore, generate financial and operational benefits for companies. The study also reveals differences related to the origin of the companies (domestic vs. foreign) and the sector of activity (industry vs. services) in adopting the circular economy principles. This research adds to the body of knowledge about the introduction of circular economy principles to the performance of companies.
