Abstract

Organisations must inspire employees to display innovative work behaviour and share knowledge with their co-workers as both are very important for academia, as well as industry. The purpose of this article is to examine the mediating effect of knowledge sharing behaviour on the relationship of P-O fit and perceived organisational support (POS) with innovative work behaviour (IWB). The study also assesses the effect of P-O fit and perceived organisational support on innovative work behaviour of hotel employees. Data were gathered from 463 employees and 65 supervisors from five leading hotels of China. The results of the study indicate that P-O fit and perceived organisational support both positively affect knowledge sharing behaviour. Knowledge sharing behaviour, person-organisation fit and perceived organisational support are positively related with innovative work behaviour. Knowledge sharing behaviour acts as a partial mediator between P-O fit and IWB, as well as between POS and IWB. This research highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing behaviour to engender innovative work behaviour in the hotel industry which has been seldom the focus of studies.
