Lilium: situación actual en México

Abstract

El sector florícola posee una de las industrias más fuertes en muchos países desarrollados y en vías de desarrollo. Sin embargo, México a pesar que ocupa el tercer lugar a nivel mundial en superficie destinada al cultivo florícola, sólo el 10% de la producción se utiliza para la exportación. En Lilium uno de los problemas que enfrentan los productores en México; y que incrementan los costos de producción; y la rentabilidad en el cultivo está en la carencia de material vegetal de plantación. Los productores se abastecen de bulbos importados para poder mantener sus programas de siembra durante todo el año. Por lo que constituye una prioridad buscar soluciones con el interés de proveerle de material vegetal de bulbos a menor costo de producción; y mejor calidad (libre de patógenos) a los productores. Lo anterior sería un gran aporte a la Biotecnología Vegetal en el campo de floricultura en México.
