La permanente búsqueda de la integración en América Latina y el Caribe

Abstract

América Latina y el Caribe se ha planteado lograr una integración regional. A más de seis décadas de la creación de la Asociación Latinoamericana de Libre Comercio (ALALC), el primer gran proyecto regional, los modestos resultados distan mucho del objetivo inicial. América Latina y el Caribe es una región fragmentada. Las instituciones para la integración han logrado poco y esta ha estado más presente en la retórica que en las prioridades políticas nacionales. La politización de la integración ha impedido avanzar en un proyecto regional con visión pragmática y de largo plazo. En un contexto de relocalización de las cadenas de suministro, la integración vuelve a cobrar relevancia. Considerando las realidades de los países para avanzar en un gran proyecto regional, en este artículo se proponen algunas medidas para aprovechar la deslocalización cercana (nearshoring) y preparar el camino para lograr una integración más profunda, que genere crecimiento, desarrollo y bienestar.
