Abstract

This paper analyses the role of investments in soil and water conservation measures on watershed basis for increasing land productivity in semi-arid agriculture. It discusses important conceptual issues relating to watershed analysis. Before analysing the data are obtained from a survey conducted in Maheswaram Integrated Watershed project in Andhra Pradesh. Sustainability issues are dealt within the framework of impact assessment and optimal land use approaches. Our analysis suggest that investments need to be concentrated on low cost technologies such as vegetative measures on watershed basis with regular care and maintenance.
