CCTS-Technologie ein Fehlschlag: Umdenken in der Energiewende notwendig

Abstract

In den kommenden zwei Jahrzehnten wird die CO2-Abscheidung auf dem deutschen Stromsektor keine Rolle spielen. Dies zeichnet sich spätestens seit der öffentlichen Bekanntgabe von Bundesumweltminister Norbert Röttgen vom 29. Oktober 2011 und der Absage des CCTS-Demonstrationsprojekts am Standort Jänschwalde durch den Energiekonzern Vattenfall ab. Auch auf europäischer Ebene liegen ernüchternde Befunde vor: Keines der ersten sechs europäischen Pilotprojekten wird auf absehbare Zeit seine Ziele, eine geschlossene CCTS-Kette und somit die dauerhafte Vermeidung von CO2-Emissionen, erreichen; viele EU-Mitgliedstaaten haben bis heute die europäische CCTS-Richtlinie 2009/31/EC nicht in nationales Recht umgesetzt, darunter auch Deutschland. Kraftwerksprojekte, die heute noch auf die Verfügbarkeit von CCTS in den kommenden zehn bis 20 Jahren vertrauen, müssen vor diesem Hintergrund als überholt betrachtet werden und sind weder ökonomisch noch klima- oder energiepolitisch sinnvoll.
