Computer- und Internetnutzung hängen stark von Einkommen und Bildung ab: geschlechtsspezifische Nutzungsunterschiede in der Freizeit besonders ausgeprägt

Abstract

Personalcomputer (PC) und das Internet werden in Deutschland - in West wie in Ost - von allen Bevölkerungsschichten intensiv genutzt, aber es gibt nach wie vor bemerkenswerte Unterschiede. Wohlhabende Haushalte sind überdurchschnittlich oft mit einem PC ausgestattet; dies gilt generell auch für Haushalte mit Kindern. Benachteiligt sind freilich Kinder von Alleinerziehenden. Computer werden in der Freizeit überdurchschnittlich häufig von jungen Menschen - mehr von Männern als von Frauen - genutzt. Die PC-Nutzung steigt mit der Qualität der Ausbildung. Auch am Arbeitsplatz bestimmen Alter und Ausbildung den Grad der Computernutzung. Geschlechtsspezifische Unterschiede im Berufsleben sind nicht auszumachen. Dies gilt allerdings nicht für den Zugang zum Internet am Arbeitsplatz.
