Inflación moderada

Abstract

En este artículo nos centramos en el comportamiento de la inflación en países que ocupan el nivel medio en materia inflacionaria, con tasas anuales persistentemente ubicadas en 15 a 30%. Un ejemplo es Colombia, donde la inflación ha oscilado en el rango 20-30% por más de una década. El mismo patrón de inflación persistente en el rango del 20% prevalece en Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Egipto, El Salvador, Ghana, Hungría, Islandia, Israel, Méjico y Sur África. En cada caso la inflación es demasiado alta como para ser ignorada y permitir un tipo de cambio fijo. Pero es evidentemente muy baja como para justificar los aparentes costos políticos y económicos de un ataque frontal al problema.
