El aumento en la oferta laboral de las mujeres casadas en Uruguay

Abstract

En este artículo se examina la elasticidad no compensada de la oferta de trabajo a los ingresos laborales reales (propios y de la pareja) y a los ingresos del hogar, entre las mujeres casadas en el Uruguay (1991-2006), sobre la base de datos de corte transversal. Al igual que se verifica en otros países, la oferta de trabajo de las mujeres es mucho más sensible a sus propios salarios que la de los hombres. La elasticidad al ingreso laboral propio permaneció relativamente estable en los anos noventa y ha sido ligeramente decreciente en la primera década del siglo XXI. La presencia de ninos en el hogar (negativa) y la escolaridad (positiva) son las variables que más inciden en las horas de trabajo. Las mujeres más educadas presentan menor elasticidad a sus propios salarios y ésta es decreciente. A fin de facilitar el empleo femenino, las políticas públicas deben considerar el cuidado infantil y promover la corresponsabilidad de hombres y mujeres en la realización del trabajo no remunerado en el hogar.
