El comienzo de la crisis en el comercio colonial: la nueva granada 1796 - 1801

Abstract

Traza las características esenciales del comercio neogranadino entre 1783 y 1796 y sus incipientes relaciones con los extranjeros, hechos que aconsejaban al gobierno espanol un entendimiento con Inglaterra. Luego describe la desaparición del comercio con Espana durante la guerra de 1796-1801 y su fácil reemplazo por una red de contrabando que los ingleses apoyaron. Por ultimo trata sobre los fugases esfuerzos por restablecer el comercio exclusivista de Espana con la Nueva Granada una vez declarada la paz en diciembre de 1801, esfuerzos que fracasaron al volver a declararse la guerra a Inglaterra en diciembre de 1804, acelerando de esta manera la marcha hacia la vinculación de la Nueva Granada en la economía europea.
