Les nouvelles générations devant la panne prolongée de l'ascenseur social

Abstract

The French society have faced thirty years of economic stagnation and of new intercohort socioeconomic inequalities that are challenging the young generations that experience a strong backlash in the dynamics of social upward mobility that characterized the previous period. After their entry on the labour market in a period of mass unemployment, the young generation face three profound breaks that we analyse here: a decline in their relative economic situation, stronger risks of downward mobility, a political marginalization. Because of its duration, these new malfunctions of the ?social lift? involve in the French society a profound fragility and strong uncertainties that will not spontaneously disappear.
