Abstract

In the years before the crisis erupted, the development in Romania of the non-governmental loan shows similar trends to those manifested in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Among the main causes of this development we can include: improving access to banking, favorable external financing conditions, the degree of financial development, favorable economic outlook in the medium and long term and the need to further finance the structural reforms. Regarding the evolution of the non-governmental credit in Romania, the decisive role in lending expansion was the loan granted to households and businesses, without them being the most important structural aspects. Although the prudential measures adopted during the crisis were maintained and the monetary policy was tightened as a result of crisis, in recent years, an increase of the nongovernmental loan for companies has been recorded lately.
