Dinámica de ajuste de precios en Boliva: un análisis con micro-datos

Abstract

En este trabajo se realiza una aproximación al grado de rigidez existente en la dinámica inflacionaria de la economía boliviana. La existencia de rigideces implica que la política económica, esencialmente la política monetaria, puede ser utilizada para afectar a la demanda agregada y por ende a la tasa de inflación. Para este fin y sobre la base de datos desagregados del Índice de Precios al Consumidor (IPC) para el periodo 1991-2008, se utiliza la metodología implementada por la Red del Euro-Sistema sobre Persistencia Inflacionaria del Banco Central Europeo, que consiste en el cálculo de una serie de indicadores: frecuencia de ajuste, magnitud de cambio de precios, sincronización y duración. Los resultados nos llevan a concluir que la frecuencia de cambio de precios en Bolivia es elevada y de corta duración, por lo que el efecto de la política monetaria sobre el indicador agregado de inflación podría llegar a ser moderado.
