Optimal Protein Segregation Strategies for Wheat Growers

Abstract

type="main" xml:lang="fr"> Une technologie capable de mesurer la teneur en protéines du grain de blé et d'effectuer la ségrégation des grains à partir des mesures recueillies pendant la récolte pourrait bientôt voir le jour. Cette nouvelle technologie permettrait aux producteurs de blé d'effectuer la ségrégation des grains en vue des marchés valorisant la qualité. Dans le présent article, nous déterminons les stratégies optimales de ségrégation et de mélange qu'un producteur peut utiliser en fonction des barèmes de prix non uniformes. Lorsque les barèmes de prix sont établis en trois paliers, nous démontrons qu'il est possible d'obtenir des stratégies de ségrégation et de mélange optimales en résolvant un problème de programmation non linéaire. À partir des données sur les prix au comptant et sur la distribution des protéines du blé recueillies dans le Pacifique nord-ouest au cours de la période 1991–2011, une application de notre modèle théorique montre que, en moyenne, un producteur de blé de force rouge d'hiver et de blé de force roux de printemps serait prêt à payer environ 17,7 et 30,8 cents respectivement pour la ségrégation d'un boisseau de blé. Nous avons également examiné l'augmentation du revenu net prévu chez les producteurs qui adoptent cette technologie.
