Convergencia regional en España: 1980-2015

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es analizar el proceso de convergencia en la renta per cápita entre las distintas regiones españolas, así como los factores que han podido ayudar en dicho proceso en las últimas tres décadas. El principal resultado es que, efectivamente, se ha producido un acercamiento en las rentas per cápita de las distintas comunidades autónomas, si bien de una intensidad que puede considerarse reducida. En cuanto a los factores que hay detrás de este proceso, la convergencia en productividad del trabajo es el principal elemento que ha ayudado a la reducción de la dispersión regional de la renta, y ha venido causado, fundamentalmente, por la mayor acumulación de capital en las regiones de menor renta inicial. Por el contrario, ni las variables de mercado de trabajo (empleo, paro) ni la productividad total de los factores han contribuido significativamente a reducir las diferencias regionales a lo largo del período analizado.
