Los españoles y la revolución comercial mexicana: las cadenas de supermercados, 1921-2011

Abstract

En este artículo enfatizo el papel desempeñado por los españoles en la creación de las grandes cadenas de supermercados en México. La cercanía a Estados Unidos y la aportación española resultaron decisivas en su engrandecimiento. Esta historia, al tiempo, revela la importancia del papel desempeñado por las minorías nacionales en la formación de la gran empresa en América Latina. Al tiempo revela un aspecto desconocido hasta la fecha: la fortaleza de estas firmas comerciales, su capacidad de adaptación a los cambios experimentados en el mercado y su competitividad frente a Wal-Mart. Adicionalmente, este artículo permite identificar la transferencia de conocimientos y experiencias adquiridos en el sector de México a España en la década de 1960.
