Abstract

The situation of the fish population in the Louzara River was described from the study of the demographic characteristics of the main species, brown trout, and the environment analysis (quality of the water, physiography of the river bed, vegetation of the basin and fishing effort). A fish inventory was carried out in nine sampling points by means of electric fishing. Length, weight, age and growth were measured in individuals captured. The strong influence of the overfishing pressure on a free fishing area in a slightly altered environment was shown (low stocks, 11.5 kg/ha, and unbalanced ages). Finally, management rules were proposed in order to improve the populations of brown trout.
