Abstract

This paper aimed to identify in the international literature on food security the scientific results about the role of trade liberalization in the same. A systematic review was used in the Web of Science and Scopus databases from 2015 to 2019. It was identify 16 studies according the inclusion and exclusion criteria. It was found that the literature on the issues in question remains ambiguous, with no consensus on the real gains or losses. The nature and magnitude of the effect of liberalization on food security depends on several factors, such as: the degree of adaptability of the poor to changes in economic conditions; the degree of exposure of countries to food imports; the presence of favorable initial conditions; accompanying measures; and the time horizon considered in the research.
