Abstract

The article characterized the adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in orange production in São Paulo from LUPA 2016/2017. To this end, it sought support in theoretical and conceptual constructions on technological change and MIP, to conduct an analysis based on the production, commercialization, organizational and R&D scenario of the orange crop, as well as the treatment and analysis of census information, LUPA 2016/ 2017, in the cut of MIP and orange production. The results point to the strong international positioning of Brazilian and São Paulo orange juice, associated with a broad and consolidated structure of representation of agro-industry and agricultural production, as well as public and private R&D activities. These results coexist with the limited supply of technologies to solve the main phytosanitary problems of the crop. In this environment, MIP takes place as a viable and important alternative, being present in 40% of the area and plants in production, in properties where orange is the main source of family income, with owners who have a higher educational level and are cooperative or associated. . The MIP was also related to other technologies, such as the use of certified seedlings and rural credit and insurance.
