Abstract

The objective of this work is to present in summary form, the historical development of social indicators in Brazil and the methodology adopted by each of them. The indicators used were the HDI, the IDS, the Idsa, the Gini Index and GDP Green. The proposal is to make a comparative analysis to dis-cover what would be the best social indicator measuring social development, or which of them better evaluate the way to which economic growth could be reversed in favor for the Brazilian population, with regard to health, education, housing, sanitation, transport, food, housing and environmental conditions.
