Abstract

This article aims to contribute to the improvement of public policies to reduce regional inequalities in the state of Goiás in order to suggest ways of assessing its efficiency. The method is exploratory, based on synthetic indices of development municipalities in Goiás. The data used were microdata from the 2000 Census and 2010 considering the dimensions of education, housing and infrastructure. The indices are considered outputs in a data envelopment analysis model and they are used to evaluate the efficiency of municipal expenditure on these dimensions. The results indicate the inefficiency of municipal expenditure and the need to improve the government finance statistics to better assess the effectiveness of public policies and programs.
