Causality Analysis Of Homicide In Sergipe Under The Perspective Of Economics Of Crime In The Period 2007‑2010

Abstract

The paper aims to analyze the causes of the dynamics of homicides in the Sergipe between 2007 and 2010. To do so, it is structured in three sections besides the introduction. The first (section 2), the contributions of economics to the understanding of crime are discussed as well its links with related sciences. The section also presents an analysis of the relationship between the availability of guns and crime in Brazil. In section 3 the methodological procedures adopted for the empirical treatment of the data are described together with the results and their implications for public policy. Finally, on the section 4, the main conclusions are summarized, among them that of the police force in fact contributes to the reduction of homicides in the state.
