Abstract

This document presents the results of formal interviews about opinions of rural small-scale traders on incoming harvests for the agricultural season 2004/05. Although the perceptions vary in different regions in general, the small-scale traders believe that the supply of agricultural commodities will be lower than the supply of the previous season. Similarly to last year, Nhamatanda district is the greatest point of concentration in Beira corridor. The scenario was found in Ile and Milange districts in Zambézia province. Additionally, Malawi is still the most important destination of the maize brought in Northern Mozambique. In all regions, maize is the most commercialized commodity. Moreover, the prices at the beginning of commercial season are equal to the ones of the similar period of last year. However, there are high expectations of accented increase in prices among the traders.
