Abstract

El trabajo que aquí se presenta constituye un paso más en la consolidación de la línea de investigación denominada Política Coyuntural de la Empresa, del Grupo de Estudios en Economía y Empresa de la Universidad EAFIT. Esta línea tiene como objetivo profundizar en el conocimiento de las interacciones de las empresas e industrias (sectores económicos) con las políticas y variables macroeconómicas. En su desarrollo se han realizado tres trabajos: el primero sobre el sector cementero y manufacturero (Jaramillo y otros, 1996); el segundo concerniente a la incidencia de la formación de expectativas por los empresarios de la industria manufacturera (Ramírez y otros, 1997); y un tercero sobre el impacto de la coyuntura en algunas entidades bancarias (Ángel y Jaramillo 2000). Además, durante el segundo semestre de 2001 se ofreció un curso de pregrado con el fin de propiciar la investigación en esta área por parte de los alumnos de la carrera de Economía de la Universidad EAFIT. La teoría de la política coyuntural de la empresa postula que existen relaciones económicas estables y medibles entre los resultados presentados en los estados financieros de las firmas y el comportamiento de la actividad económica agregada. Estas relaciones difieren según se trate de explicar el desempeño de una firma o de un sector económico; pues, en determinados momentos, lo ocurrido con la economía en su conjunto puede explicarse en gran parte por el comportamiento de un sector, como puede ser el caso de los períodos de crisis bancarias.
